How to measure your ring size?

Choosing the right ring size can be quite tricky! We created this blogpost to help you find the perfect ring size. We present you 3 ways to measure your ring size. If you have any questions, please email info@solitudethelabel. We are happy to help you!

There are three ways to determine your ring size:

METHOD 1: Measure an existing ring

Step 1. One way to determine your ring size is by using a ring that you already have. Select a ring that properly fits your intended finger. Do you want a wedding ring? Traditionally, wedding rings are worn on the ring finger of the left hand.

Step 2. Measure the amount of millimeters on the INSIDE of the ring. See picture below. If there is 16,5 millimeters on the inside of the ring, you will need to order size 16,5.

TIPS WHEN YOU ORDER A RING AS A SURPRISE

  1. Borrow the ring of the lucky one.
  2. Follow the steps of Method 1.

What to do when the lucky one does not have a ring? You can contact us (info@solitudethelabel.nl) and we will help you find the right size, without spoiling the surprise to the lucky one. Based on average sizes and ring size guidelines we will make a prediction together with you. Turns out the rings is not the correct size? No worries, most of our rings can easily be resized.

METHOD 2: Measure your finger

If you do not have an existing ring like described in method 1, this is the way to go. Your ring should fit the finger comfortably. By this we mean that the ring should not fall off, but should be loose enough to feel some resistance when sliding it over your knuckle.

Step 1. Order your reusable ring size strip here.

Step 2. Wrap the string around the intended finger. Measure the finger around 3 to 4 times in order to increase accuracy. Maybe measure in the morning and evening.

Step 3. Read the length of the strip and use the table below to determine your ringsize: is the strip 53 mm? Your ring size is 17.

FUN FACTS
For most people their ring size is not as commonly known as their shoe size. The ring size of each finger is different. Usually the fingers of your dominant hand (for most people this is the right hand), have a bigger size than your left hand. This is because your dominant hand is a bit stronger than the non-dominant hand. Also your ring size can differ slightly depending on the temperature, season and even time of the day. During summertime your hands swell slightly and during wintertime your fingers shrink a bit because of the temperature. So, to have the most accurate results, we recommend you to avoid measuring your ring size early in the morning, during a heatwave or when your hands are freezing.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE IN BETWEEN SIZES?
What to do when size 16 is too small but size 16,5 seems be a little bit too big? We’ve got you covered. Because we make all of the jewellery at our Atelier in Amsterdam, we can personalize every piece of jewellery to great detail. We can make rings in size 16,2 for example. When you order your ring, you can add a note to this explaining that you are not completely sure about the size. We will help you.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR RING YOU ORDERED IS NOT THE RIGHT SIZE?
Don’t worry, many of our rings are easily resized. However, there are some that cannot be resized. For example rings with stones or patterns are hard to resize.
